West Of Eden Farm
We are a small, newly established 100 acre farm located in the South East corner of New South Wales about 100km West of the town of Eden. Our footprint is quite small at the moment, however we are slowly growing and expanding our business in the region, to provide quality, chemical free produce to local customers, including fruits, berries, eggs and vegetables. We are eager to teach and to learn from prospective WWOOFers and to share some down days with our visitors, exploring the beautiful South East coast camping an hiking.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

I am passionate about my farm and what i am hoping to achieve in the long run. I would like to be able to share what knowledge i have with other like minded people, as well as provide them with an opportunity to learn what i have to teach. I am also open and eager to learning from the people who may come to visit and stay with me. Additionally, i’ve always believed that sharing work with other people makes the work more enjoyable and less stressful, and having some extra hands to help would be a wonderful blessing.

Organic/Biological methods we use

While we are non-organic certified, all of what is grown on the property is done without any use of chemicals. The farm is only new, however our aim in the long run is to promote biodiverse permaculture systems that maintain an optimal balance between organisms to reduce the need for intervention. With this in mind, we plant numerous flowers, such as nasturtiums, pyrethrum and marigolds to control insect populations, and try to assist predatory insects to take up residence and control other insects that might cause imbalances in the system.

The future goal we are aiming to take the farm is to have a closed loop system that requires no external inputs, such as fertilisers and soil amendments, and we are getting there slowly by growing increasing amounts of food for our chickens on the farm, and in using chicken waste materials to enrich our planting zones to produce higher quality and higher yield crops.

With the addition of sheep and cattle on to the farm, we are looking to adopt rotational grazing methods to improve soil quality and sequester additional carbon into the soils to make them richer and more productive.
