Olly
We’ve got 10 hectares of mostly cleared land with some remnant woodland and some revegetation along the creek. We’re in the process of restoring a wetland and have begun cool burning for ecological restoration in the forest. We’ve got about 50 ewes and have started planting an orchard in the paddocks. We’ve also got a reasonable sized veggie garden, chooks, ducks and bees.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

to meet nice folks. build a community, get some help managing our land more ecologically and sustainably, to have more time to do silly projects like playgrounds. to expose my daughter to different cultures, have people to lay cards with and cook for, learn about techniques in other places and share what we’ve learnt on our journey. to laugh and eat and garden together.

Organic/Biological methods we use

chook poo is my main manure, legumes for a nitrogen rotation, bush mulch as much as i can scavenge from roadsides, ash from the fire from our own wood, a composting toilet so the loop is closed and a worm farm for the septic system. Sheep are currently wormed but we’ve got new rams for next year that are worm resistant so will hopefully be able to stop drenching ultimately. Fruit trees are in the paddocks as a quasi agroforestry set up. trying to graze or burn all grass instead of mowing, do a little bit of cut and paint to try control willows but thistles etc are all hand chipped.
