The Moorings Lakehouse
We have a beautiful 9 acre waterfront property nestled on a private peninsula overlooking the pristine waters of Wallis Lake, near Pacific Palms on the NSW Mid North Coast. With over 200 metres of lake frontage, expansive lawns, established trees, abundant organic vegetable gardens, productive fruit orchards and free range poultry, the property offers a wonderful opportunity to experience sustainable living in a spectacular natural environment.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

Our journey with WWOOF began with a passion for sustainable living, organic food production and a desire to share our beautiful lakeside property with people who care about the environment.
In 2012, my son David completed his Permaculture Design Certificate, inspiring us to transform our property, into a thriving organic haven guided by permaculture design principles. Over the years, we have developed an abundance of organic vegetable gardens, productive orchards and flourishing landscapes that work in harmony with the surrounding natural environment.
Our approach is based on sustainability, regeneration and self-sufficiency. All our water is harvested and sourced on the property, our natural fertilisers are produced through composting, and we propagate and save our own seeds. We harness solar energy, supported by battery storage, and process all our wastewater on site. These systems reflect our commitment to minimising our environmental footprint while creating a productive and beautiful place to live.
Our vegetable gardens and orchards provide an abundance of fresh, seasonal produce, demonstrating how thoughtful design and organic growing practices can create a resilient and rewarding environment.
We became WWOOF hosts because we believe knowledge, experiences and a connection with nature are meant to be shared. We love welcoming people from different backgrounds and cultures who are curious about sustainable living, organic gardening and permaculture.
For us, WWOOF is about much more than exchanging accommodation for help. It is about community, learning from one another, sharing meals, exchanging ideas and inspiring others to embrace a more sustainable way of life.
We hope everyone who visits leaves with wonderful memories, practical new skills and a deeper appreciation for the possibilities of living in harmony with nature.

Organic/Biological methods we use

Our approach to organic farming is inspired by **Permaculture Design Principles**, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, biodiversity, regenerative agriculture and creating productive landscapes that work in harmony with nature.
We maintain extensive organic vegetable gardens, fruit orchards and free range poultry, using natural biological methods to build healthy soils and encourage thriving ecosystems.
**We produce our own natural fertilisers through composting**, recycling organic garden waste and nutrients back into the soil to improve fertility, soil structure and microbial activity. We propagate many of our own plants from seeds collected on the property, encouraging resilience and self-sufficiency.
Water conservation is fundamental to our approach. We harvest our own rainwater and have developed extensive water harvesting, collection and storage systems to maximise the use of this precious resource. We also retain and process our wastewater onsite.
We generate our own solar energy, supported by battery storage, reducing our reliance on conventional electricity and minimising our environmental footprint.
**We do not use synthetic pesticides, insecticides, herbicides or fungicides.** Instead, we focus on healthy soils, biodiversity, natural pest management and creating balanced growing environments.
An important part of our philosophy is that **sustainability should also be beautiful**. We intentionally design our gardens, orchards and productive landscapes to be visually inspiring, welcoming and enjoyable spaces. We believe that when people experience the beauty of a thoughtfully designed organic environment, they are more likely to engage positively with nature, participate in growing food and embrace sustainable living.
Our ultimate goal is to demonstrate that regenerative agriculture, environmental responsibility, beauty and human wellbeing can coexist, creating landscapes that nourish both people and the planet.
