A cold climate garden in the Victorian high country. Eight and a half acres including 2 acres of chestnuts and a large variety of trees, some food and others ornamental. A small citrus orchard, berry rows and a vegetable garden. We have just established a native area to increase native habitat. We have many animals and birds frequent our place including king parrots, crimson rosellas, black cockatoos, kangaroos and koalas.
I want to host to share the beauty of our place, to give people from other parts of the world an experience of a different part of Australia. In return we just want help to maintain the block. I would also like to have a cultural exchange because meeting people from other place expands your understanding of the world, usually in a very positive way.
Organic/Biological methods we use
Some may describe our style as chaos gardening but I like to think of it as responsive. We are not a commercial entity but try to be as self sufficient as possible. If a problem arises then we think of a low impact way to respond to it. For example: we had native rodents eating our vegetables so we moved the compost far away from the garden, filled tunnels with river pebbles and the problem was fixed. We use animal manure and compost as fertiliser, we mulch garden beds in winter, we net producing trees, we slash and burn blackberries but a lot of weed control is done manually.
