Katherine Outback Experience
Nestled in the heart of Australia’s Top End, Katherine Outback Experience is a national award-winning working tourism property where horses, working dogs and cattle come together to showcase authentic station life. WWOOFers become part of our small team, helping care for animals, maintain the property and support our daily visitor experiences while enjoying life in the beautiful Northern Territory.
Why I became a WWOOF Host
We became a WWOOF Host because we love sharing the Australian outback lifestyle with people from around the world. Our hope is that every WWOOFer leaves with new skills, lasting friendships and a genuine understanding of life on a working horse property and tourism business. We believe cultural exchange is just as valuable as the work itself, and we’re excited to welcome enthusiastic people who want to learn, contribute and experience the Northern Territory beyond the typical tourist trail.
Organic/Biological methods we use
While we are not a certified organic property, we believe in working with nature wherever practical. We minimise chemical use and focus on healthy soils, pastures and animals through sustainable management practices.
Our gardens/ lawns are fertilised with composted animal manure produced on the property, helping recycle nutrients naturally and improve soil health. We encourage biodiversity, carefully manage grazing pressure to protect our pastures, and use biological methods wherever possible.
Animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do, with our horses and livestock managed using low-stress handling techniques, quality nutrition and preventative health care. WWOOFers are welcome to learn about these practical, environmentally responsible approaches to farming and land management.
We collect all our own rainwater onsite and plant native trees to reduce dependence on water consumption, and to improve habitats. We also recycle where possible and reduce single use plastics. The property is completely powered by solar during daylight hours.
