Jamie & Helen
We live with our small family on a beautiful 23 acre property in the tranquil and stunning surrounds of Victoria’s Otway Ranges. We follow organic and chemical-free farming techniques, both in the paddocks and the garden, and are progressing with our knowledge and application of permaculture and regenerative agriculture principles.
We run (and breed) a small herd of beef cattle, a flock of around 30-50 sheep, and also tend chooks (that’s ‘chickens’ in conventional English!), multiple bee hives and an extensive orchard and vegetable garden. We are also preparing to start milking our ‘house cow’, who is pregnant with her first calf currently.
Whilst this sounds to many people (including us!) like paradise, naturally it is a lot for us to manage and we always feel like there are lots of things on the ‘to do’ list! We would love to share our wonderful lifestyle with like-minded people, share knowledge and good times together – and very grateful of course for the extra helping hands a WWOOFer or two can provide!
There are lots of opportunities to get involved in all of the above, including checking/feeding livestock, planting/weeding/harvesting in the garden, and even checking/harvesting from the bee hives (if you want!). And of course, helping to cook/preserve and eat the yummy produce! We also have lots of ‘improvement’ jobs like building new garden beds, establishing and improving the orchard area, livestock fencing and preparing a good milking area.  As is usually the case, there are fun tasks, interesting tasks, boring tasks, easy tasks, hard tasks and you’ll no doubt get a mix of all of them in your WWOOFing experience, but we’ll always do our best to align the work with your skills and interests wherever we can, and there’ll always be lots of fun and learning together!

Why I became a WWOOF Host

We love to meet new people; learn; share knowledge, experiences and culture; share our beautiful region and farm; and of course work together with a shared passion for organic small-scale farming, self sufficiency and gardening.

Organic/Biological methods we use

We are committed to environmental and social sustainability and aim to live honestly and simply in harmony with nature, true to this commitment.  We are focussed on improving self-sufficiency on our farm, and follow organic and chemical-free farming techniques, both in the paddocks and the garden. We are progressing with our knowledge and application of permaculture and regenerative agriculture principles. We know a bit (but do not consider ourselves experts!), we are always learning more (which we love) and enjoy sharing the things we can. In addition to garden/orchard produce, we process our own meat for our own consumption (but we also value and respect vegetarianism).
