Shroom Brothers
Certified organic specialty mushroom farm at Stokers Siding in the Tweed Valley, Northern NSW. Two brothers, family-run since 2015. We grow eight varieties including Lion’s Mane, shiitake, chestnut and king oyster, and sell them at ten farmers markets a week between Ballina and the Gold Coast. Why I became a WWOOF Host

We’ve spent more than a decade working out how to grow specialty mushrooms organically, and most of it we had to learn the hard way. Hosting WWOOFers is our way of passing that on. Very few people get to see inside a commercial mushroom farm, and we enjoy showing how it works, from the growing logs to the market stall.
We’re a small family farm that runs every day of the year, so extra hands make a real difference to us. In return we want you to leave with skills you can use: how to grow, harvest and handle mushrooms, how organic certification works in practice, and how a farm sells direct at markets. We also like the company. Sharing meals and stories with people from other places is a big part of why we signed up.

Organic/Biological methods we use

We are certified organic with Southern Cross Certification (certification no. 22075) and audited every year. Our mushrooms are grown indoors on clean substrate logs in climate-controlled grow rooms. Nothing is sprayed at any stage: no pesticides, fungicides or synthetic chemicals. Pests and contamination are managed through hygiene, airflow, humidity and temperature. Everything is harvested by hand. Our produce is also independently tested by a NATA-accredited lab for microbiology and heavy metals.
