"Best in the West" – Outback Lodge
Nestled in the heart of the Queensland outback, the Outback Barracks is a family-owned and operated destination offering an authentic country escape. Stay in unique outback-style accommodation, meet and interact with friendly farm animals, and experience the relaxed charm of rural Australia. Surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, Outback Barracks is the perfect base for unforgettable outback adventures, genuine country hospitality, and memorable experiences.
Why I became a WWOOF Host
Outback Barracks has always been more than just a place to stay—it has been our dream to create a place where people can experience authentic Australian country life, connect with nature, and slow down from the pace of everyday life.
As a family-owned and operated property, we became WWOOF hosts because we love sharing our little piece of outback Queensland with people from around the world. We believe there’s something special about rolling up your sleeves, caring for animals, harvesting fruit from the trees, enjoying a swim in the dam after a day’s work, casting a line, and spending the evening around a campfire beneath a sky full of stars.
We’re looking for enthusiastic, hands-on people who enjoy variety, love animals, appreciate the outdoors and are excited to immerse themselves in genuine rural Australian life. In return, we hope you’ll gain new skills, meaningful experiences, lasting friendships and a true taste of outback hospitality.
For us, WWOOF is about cultural exchange, sharing stories, working together and creating memories. We can’t wait to welcome you to Outback Barracks and share this incredible corner of Queensland with you.

Organic/Biological methods we use
Our approach centres around responsible husbandry rather than commercial farming. Daily tasks include feeding, cleaning enclosures, maintaining paddocks, monitoring animal health and providing enrichment activities to keep our animals happy, healthy and thriving.
